Gypsy moth caterpillars devastating the Barry Lakes
section of Vernon Township / Waywayanda Mountain
Gypsy moth caterpillars are in the midst of devastating the forests in the Barry Lakes section of Vernon Township at the top of Waywayanda Mountain for the second year in a row.
Look at the tree line on the mountain as you ascend Barrett Road and you'll see clusters of severe defoliation. Take a walk in the woods or in backyards and you'll hear the constant sound of caterpillar droppings hitting the forest floor.
We need Vernon Township / Barry Lakes to contact the NJ Department of Agriculture to have the area considered for their annual gypsy moth suppression program.
Please share this article so that Vernon Township officials understand the threat in which our community is under.
